Resources for Contractors

Contractors are a critical part of the transition to all-electric homes in Denver. For many homeowners, you are a trusted advisor on the best equipment to install, the rebates and incentives available, and the other ways to improve energy efficiency. Being familiar with our programs will give you an advantage when attracting new clients.

Learn how to register and use Denver's Home Energy Rebates, learn what you need to know if you are working on a larger home remodel or addition, and learn about the parts of the Denver Energy code you are most likely to encounter in your work.

1. Overview

As a contractor, you are the homeowner’s connection to Denver’s Home Energy Rebates, since you will be the one receiving the rebate from the city and applying it to the customer’s bill.

2. Instructions for Installers Applying for Rebates

All rebates offered through Denver’s Home Energy Rebate Program must be point-of-sale rebates to customers. Rebates must be shown as a rebate or credit to the customer’s signed agreement in order to qualify.

You may reserve rebates before the project is complete with a signed customer estimate or agreement. A signed contract is not required to reserve a rebate (see 'related information' on this page for example documents).

Once a project is completed, you will apply for the final rebate through the contractor portal. You will be reimbursed the rebate amount after we have processed and approved your application.

4. Program and Rebate Measure Details and Requirements

New in 2024: Existing premises, rehab projects and new construction are all eligible for rebates. Denver reserves the right to limit the total incentive dollars to any single developer to $60,000 per calendar year.

For all program measure details and requirements please visit the FAQ page on our contractor portal.

Program Eligibility

To utilize this program, the premise must be:

  • In the City and County of Denver
  • A single-family dwelling, two-family dwelling (duplexes), or townhome.
    • Existing commercial buildings, multifamily apartment buildings, and multifamily condominium buildings are eligible for Denver’s Building Electrification Program Rebates.
    • If you or the homeowner have questions about if the individual dwelling unit is considered a condominium or a townhome, please contact Denver’s Community Planning and Development at archstruc.review@denvergov.org.
  • Served by Xcel Energy Residential Service. If the homeowner does not have an Xcel Energy bill yet, they may submit a dated letter verifying future Xcel Energy services at that address in lieu of a utility bill.

These home energy and electrification rebates can be stacked and combined with rebates from Xcel Energy and the Colorado Energy Office (funded by the Inflation Reduction Act), provided the equipment they choose and their income match the requirements for each program.
