Scope of Work
Installation and repair of firestop systems, fire-resistive joint systems, and perimeter fire containment systems. All work will be done under the on-site supervision of a Class D Firestop Installer – Commercial Supervisor Certificate holder.
Minimum Experience Required to Apply
- A Specialty Class D Firestopping Installer Certificate is required for the installation of all firestopping. The supervision by a Firestopping Supervisor is required in buildings subject to the special inspection requirements of 2021 IBC Section 1705.18. This certificate will be valid for 3 years from date of issue. The required experience and training for the individual applying for the installer certificate:
1. Minimum Experience: Comply with one of the following (A, B, or C),
A) One year experience or 1,000 hours documented experience in building construction within the firestop industry, installing firestopping under the direction of a supervisor holding a Denver firestopping supervisor certificate or an approved Denver firestopping special inspector certificate.
B) One year or 1,000 hours documented experience in the firestop industry conducting quality control under the direction of a supervisor holding a Denver firestopping supervisor certificate or an approved Denver firestopping special inspector certificate.
C) One year or 1500 hours documented experience in the selection and installation of firestop systems and/or fire-resistive joint systems under the direction of a supervisor holding a Denver firestopping supervisor certificate or an approved Denver firestopping special inspector certificate.
2. Minimum Training: Within the past two years must, comply with one of the following (A or B)
A) Attend a total of eight hours of educational training directly related to firestopping and conducted by at least three different organizations comprised of firestop manufacturers, firestop industry trade associations, Accredited CEU providers or a combination thereof. A minimum of two hours per each organization is required.
B) Attend a minimum eight-hour ICC or other accredited educational program with the explicit purpose of educating parties specifically in the firestop industry. This option will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis depending on the educational program submitted to the AHJ for consideration by the applicant.
