Update Your Information with Contractor Licensing

Follow the below instructions to change your business name, owners/officers, or your contact information.

Business Name

Step 1.Gather Documents

If your business name registered with the state has changed, you can update it on your license card by submitting the following documents:

  • A new license application(PDF, 220KB) signed by the licensed company’s designated owner/officer,
  • A copy of the owner/officer’s driver’s license if the owner/officer is not the one submitting in person, and
  • These Colorado Secretary of State forms based on your corporate structure.
  • Electrical contractors must present a current State of Colorado Electrical Contractor card with their application along with a copy of the Master Electrician’s drivers license or ID.
  • Plumbing contractors must present a current State of Colorado Plumbing Contractor card with their application along with a photocopy of the Master Plumber’s drivers license or ID.
  • Fire Protection A & B contractors must present a current State of Colorado Fire Suppression certificate with their application. 

To receive the new license card in person:

Either the owner/officer must be present to obtain the new card or the supervisor certificate holder must have a letter signed by an owner/officer on company letterhead authorizing them to pick up the new license. Otherwise, the new license card will be mailed to the address listed on the license.

Step 2.Submit In Person

Bring all required documents to the Contractor Licensing counter. The counter is located on the second floor of the Wellington Webb Municipal Office Building at 201 W. Colfax Ave., Denver.

Owners/Officers

Step 1.Notarized Letter 

To add or remove individual owners/officers from your company, submit a notarized letter or meeting minutes on company letterhead, signed by an existing owner/officer, that shows who the new officers will be.

Step 2.Buyout Agreement 

If the company ownership has wholly changed to a new individual or entity, you must also submit a copy of the buyout agreement. 

Step 3.Submit In Person or By Mail 

Gather all required documents and submit in person at the Contractor Licensing counter on the second floor of the Wellington Webb Municipal Office Building located at 201 W. Colfax Ave.

Contact Information

Step 1.Signed Letter 

An owner/officer for the licensed company can update company contact information (phone, email, and mailing address), by submitting a signed letter of the changes to be made. 

Step 2.Submit By Mail, In Person, or Email 

The letter can be mailed, dropped off in person at the Contractor Licensing counter on the second floor of the Wellington Webb Municipal Office Building located at 201 W. Colfax Ave., Denver, or emailed to Contr.Licensing@denvergov.org.

Note: The letter of changes must be signed, so if it is emailed, it must be an attachment with a visible signature. Typed signatures are not accepted.
