Landmark Preservation

Landmark Preservation is a vital and integrated component of Community Planning and Development. Denver’s landmarks and historic districts enhance the city’s unique identity, quality of life, and economic vitality. Denver’s City Council first enacted the Denver Landmark ordinance in 1967 to help preserve, enhance and encourage the use of structures and areas of the city with historical, architectural, cultural, and/or geographical significance.

Tell us frankly: How well do Denver's land use and development rules work?

CPD recently launched a comprehensive review of the city’s zoning and urban design regulations, including landmark rules. The initiative examines whether these rules effectively support Denver’s evolving needs, including affordable housing, climate resiliency, neighborhood design quality, and process efficiencies. As part of this important work, CPD is seeking community feedback. Our community survey will take 10 to 15 minutes and will be available until April 28. Findings will be compiled in a comprehensive report that will inform future updates to codes and regulations.
