NPI taking off in Northwest and Southeast Denver this summer

Community members in different corners of the city will be able to take an active role in crafting a future vision for their neighborhoods with the launch of the Near Southeast Area Plan and the Near Northwest Area Plan over the next few weeks. Both efforts are part of Denver Community Planning and Development’s Neighborhood Planning Initiative. The initiative, which began in 2017, continues to expand the areas of the city that have a neighborhood plan in place, created in collaboration with the community, to help guide city decision-making.
“At its heart, neighborhood planning is about bringing people together and having conversations about how we address local needs together,” said Laura E. Aldrete, executive director of Community Planning and Development. “As the Neighborhood Planning Initiative expands into new areas, more residents are getting the opportunity to think about our citywide goals around equity and sustainability in a way that aligns with neighborhood priorities. We encourage everyone to participate and look forward to spirited collaboration.”
The Near Southeast Area Plan will cover the neighborhoods of Goldsmith, Indian Creek, University Hills North, Virginia Village and Washington Virginia Vale.

The Near Northwest Area Plan will cover the neighborhoods of Chaffee Park, Highland, Jefferson Park and Sunnyside.
Both area plans feature multiple ways to get involved. Visit the plan websites for complete details on these upcoming activities:
- a virtual community kickoff to be held via Zoom
- an online survey for community members to share thoughts on current conditions, ideas and priorities for the plan and the planning process
- in-person events in the community where city staff will be available to take input and answer questions.
