Biography:
Susan Barnes-Gelt began her political life as a student activist and historic preservationist. She was business-community liaison to Mayor Federico Pena. In 1993, Clinton appointed her to the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities. Afterwards she served eight years as an At Large member of the Denver City Council. She chaired the Council's Land Use Committee and the City's Comprehensive Plan Task Force. Since leaving the Council, Barnes-Gelt has worked as a strategic planner and a freelance columnist for the Denver Post. In the 2006, Mizel Center for Arts and Culture presented her with its first Cultural Achievement.
