Federal Boulevard improvements and reconstruction

Denver Public Works is reconstructing a stretch of Federal Boulevard from West 7th Avenue to West Holden Place to enhance safety for people who walk, bike, take transit, and drive the corridor. The enhancements will also improve connectivity between neighborhoods whose residents regularly cross Federal, including Sun Valley residents.

Vision Zero

Signal reconstruction at 38th Ave, Exposition, Kentucky, Mississippi and Jewell Enhancements at 10 intersections between Virginia and Jewell, adjusting signal timing to activate the pedestrian signal every cycle. At five of these intersections, there are new pedestrian countdown indicators (where there currently are none). At seven of the intersections, the city has installed a pedestrian head start.

Roadway reconstruction

  • W. 7th Ave to W Holden Place, including sidewalks, median, and repaving
  • W. 5th Ave to W 7th Ave and W Holden Place to W Howard Place: lane restriping

Lighting

CCD is working with CDOT to make additional enhancements in conjunction with a scheduled repaving project. We are also working with CDOT to upgrade lighting from high-pressure sodium to LED, and Xcel is performing a lighting audit of the entire corridor to help us identify and replace burned-out bulbs. 

Santa Fe streetscape

The City and County of Denver Department of Public Works are working to identify, design, and develop pilot streetscape improvements for the Santa Fe Corridor between 8th Avenue and West Colfax Avenue.

Street paving

Denver Public Works repairs and improves public streets with services that include paving, pothole patching, curb and gutter repairs, and curb ramp installation, as well as maintenance tasks such as street sweeping and snow removal.

West Colfax pedestrian crossing and transit improvements

In 2017, Denver voters approved funds through the Elevate Denver Bond Program to be used to make pedestrian crossing improvements to West Colfax, as well as improving the efficiency and reliability of transit along the corridor.
