About Councilwoman Black

Councilwoman Black’s legislative priorities include sustainability and waste reduction, addressing homelessness and increasing housing options, improving safety and mobility options for all residents, increasing our green spaces and improving parks and trails, and working toward a more inclusive and equitable city.

Councilwoman Black chairs the Finance & Governance Committee, serves on the Land Use, Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, the Budget & Policy Committee, and attends the Business, Arts, Workforce & Aviation Services and Safety Housing, Education & Homelessness committees. Councilwoman Black co-chairs the Ballot Measure Modernization Work Group with Clerk Paul Lopez. Councilwoman Black also serves on the Redistricting Committee and has been leading an effort to improve processes, rules, guidelines and transparency in some of the ways that the Council conducts itself.

Councilwoman Black completed her second term on the SCFD Board of Directors and the Colorado Municipal League’s Executive Board in 2021. She is vice chairman of the Transportation Solutions board and serves on the Denver South Transportation Management Association board. She is a governor appointee to the Regional Air Quality Council, secretary of the Denver Park Trust, and an ex-officio member of the High Line Canal Conservancy board. 

Since taking office in 2015, Councilwoman Black's district 4 priorities include neighborhood planning, mobility, safety and community engagement. Citywide goals include addressing Denver’s mobility challenges, housing, sustainability and parks. Kathy Gile oversees special projects, Coffee Talks, South by Southeast and expanding public art in the district.
