Volunteer

Giving of your time and experience may be the best way to support community members in need.

Ways You Can Volunteer

By volunteering with Denver Human Services or one of our many community partners, you can help everyone in Denver be connected, supported, safe, and well.

Volunteer with Denver Human Services

We're always in need of volunteers to help with our annual donation drives. Opportunities are available during  the drives (listed below). If you're interested in supporting one of our drives, please email GIVE@denvergov.org

  • Spring Showers Hygiene Drive (May)
  • Adopt-a-Student School Supply Drive (July-August)
  • Adopt-a-Family, Teen, or Senior Holiday Gift Drive (November-December)

Become a Parent Advocate through DPALS

If you have personal experience navigating the child welfare system, then consider volunteering as a partner through Denver Parent Advocates Lending Support (DPALS). Parent partners have put in the work to change their lives and strengthen their families. Drawing on that experience, they volunteer to provide support, encouragement, navigation assistance, and more to parents who are new to the child welfare system.

Mentor Foster Youth through CHOICE

CHOICE is a mentoring program that helps foster youth build permanent connections with adults and families outside the traditional adoption process. The program, which is offered by The Adoption Exchange in partnership with Colorado Department of Human Services, focuses on helping foster youth age 12 to 18 as they transition into adulthood.

Volunteer in the Community

If you’d like to be connected to community agencies in need of volunteer support, simply call the Mile High United Way’s 2-1-1 Help Center. Once you dial 2-1-1, you’ll be connected to a community resource expert, who will ask about your skills, experience, and interests and help you identify a volunteer opportunity.

You can also search online listings of open volunteer positions throughout the Denver Metro area by visiting Spark the Change Colorado, our local volunteer center. Spark the Change Colorado offers volunteer matching, training, and advocacy services.

Be a Giver

Many community agencies depend on volunteers to carry out the important work they are doing for people in Denver. Download our Be a Giver guide [PDF] to learn more about how to volunteer with our community partners to create a healthy, connected community.
