The Veteran Services team is part of Denver Human Services (DHS) in the City and County of Denver. Our staff work with all veterans and military personnel as well as their families, regardless of service time or discharge status.

Can you help me access other benefits?
We provide a thorough assessment and direct referrals to partner agencies to meet a wide array of service needs, including but not limited to:
- Shelter/housing
- Food banks
- Education and training
- Legal services
- Public benefits
- Rental/deposit assistance
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring a copy of:
- Your DD214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty)
- A Government Issued ID
- Direct deposit information for your bank account, which you will need for Veterans Affairs (VA) payment
Our team will tell you if there is any other documentation needed before your appointment.
Can I file a claim with a Dishonorable discharge?
No. Veteran Services Officers (VSOs) can only file claims for Veterans with an Honorable or Other Than Honorable discharge. However, our Veteran Services team will work with Veterans to explore other resources they may be eligible for.
Are there any costs?
No. Our services are always free of charge.
What services can a spouse or family member inquire about with the VSO?
Veteran Services Officers (VSOs) can file for Survivor Benefits for eligible family member to include:
- Survivors Pension
- Dependency and Indemnity Compensation
- Education Benefits
- Burial Benefits
Meet Our Team
Mark
Mark is a supervisor with Denver Veteran Services. He served in the United States Army from 1996 to 2011, working as a Medical Noncommissioned Officer deploying to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom for 3 deployments operating as a medic, a trainer and leader of Soldiers across the battlefield. His time in the Army taught him selfless service and discipline, which continues to guide his work today.

"After transitioning out of service, I became passionate about supporting fellow Veterans through Outreach and Benefits Navigation. I was especially committed to serving Veterans with TBIs and PTSD, and I take pride in helping Veterans feel purposeful and relevant in their own lives.
"I specialize in community engagement and Veteran awareness, and bring a trauma informed /lived experience approach to the team in conjunction with previous experience as an Accredited Certified Brain Injury Specialist.
"Outside of work, I enjoy long motorcycle trips and stay connected to the Veteran community through personal outreach at motorcycle events in the western United States and in the local community."
Royce
The flag pictured behind Royce (and other Denver Veteran Services team members) is his own. It was on the submarine upon which Royce once served.
Royce is a Veteran Services Officer with Denver Veteran Services. He served in the United States Navy as a nuclear‑trained submarine electrician from 1991 to 1997, where he learned the importance of teamwork, precision, and taking care of the people around me. "Those values continue to guide my work today as a County Veteran Service Officer for the City and County of Denver."

Gabe
Gabe is an Outreach Case Coordinator with Denver Veteran Services. He became passionate about supporting veterans through previous outreach and shelter work. During this work and in their personal life they also took notice of how many underserved veterans are in our communities and wanted to help those who have served their country.
