Annual #BeAGiver School Supply Drive supports 1,000+ youth (grades K-12) served by DHS programs
DENVER – July 18, 2025 – Denver Human Services (DHS) launched its annual #BeAGiver School Supply Drive on June 30 and asks for community support before the drive closes on August 2. Donated school supplies, monetary donations to purchase school supplies, and volunteer time to sort and package donations are requested and will help provide thousands of supply-filled backpacks to families served by DHS programs.
Thousands of people in Denver experiencing crises or hardships utilize the GIVE Program each year for emergency support. The GIVE Donations arm of the program manages seasonal drives and distribution of the donations, including drives in the spring for hygiene products, summer for school supplies and winter for holiday gifts. Over the years, thousands of students served by DHS programs have received supply-filled backpacks in preparation for the new school year.
“As the cost of school supplies continues to increase and students’ supply needs grow, many Denver families’ back-to-school budgets are feeling the pinch. Together, we can ensure thousands of K-12 students have the resources they need to be productive and successful in their educational settings — whether it be backpacks, pencils, paper or calculators,” says DHS Executive Director Anne-Marie Braga.
In 2024, the GIVE Center provided 1,441 supply-filled backpacks to K-12 students — with more than 1,000 backpacks distributed through our General School Supply store and close to 400 provided to students in client-facing programs, which allows us to serve families and children in DHS programs such as child welfare, foster care, homeless outreach and food assistance in a more holistic and integrated fashion.
"I just want to say thank you so much for these beautiful details. Seeing my son’s happy face makes me happy. God bless you greatly and continue to be a blessing to other children,” said an anonymous student’s mother.
"To the person who gave me my supplies, I want to say thank you for helping me. I’m so excited for this and to start my school year with all the supplies I need and not worry about the stuff I need, thank you. God bless you and hope you can help more kids,” an anonymous student conveyed.
Until August 2, the DHS Give Center is asking the community to support the annual #BeAGiver School Supply Drive in the following ways:
