Carla Madison Recreation Center will Close at 7 p.m., Unhoused Asked to Intake at Front Door Shelters During Severe Weather

Denver’s Department of Housing Stability (HOST) will activate Carla Madison Recreation Center, 2401 E. Colfax Ave., to expand overnight shelter capacity for people experiencing homelessness tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 29.

Carla Madison Recreation Center will be closed from 7 p.m. tonight to 9 a.m. tomorrow as the space will be converted to an overnight shelter. Those in need of shelter should be directed to the city’s “front door” access points for shelter and will be transported to other shelter facilities as needed, and therefore should not access the recreation center directly.

Severe weather poses a serious danger to those staying unsheltered, and the city encourages people to come inside.

All Denver Recreation Centers are open today as warming stations during regular business hours for people who need a place to warm up during the day. An area in each center will be staffed, with access to drinking water, restrooms, and a place to sit.
