The following trainings have been developed to help support HOST partners.

Homelessness Resolution

Homelessness Sensitivity

This training is required for all staff working at City-funded partner organizations who interact with people experiencing homelessness. It is designed to provide knowledge and skills to make those interactions more positive for the staff person and those they serve.

Case Management and Progressive Engagement

This training provides a basic philosophy of case management and how the use of the Core Four framework can provide a person-centered foundation to creating goals in a multitude of settings such as day centers, shelters, and housing programs.  Also includes a brief overview of accessing vital documents for clients.

Creating a Housing Plan

This training will guide shelter case managers on how to create a housing plan with the client to address individual barriers, goals and preferences (i.e. location, affordability) that will lead to securing suitable housing efficiently and with intention.

Crisis De-escalation

This training will provide basic and beginner tactics to de-escalating clients through a variety of situations.

Harm Reduction 101

This training focuses on harm reduction principles, myths, and information around substances and how we can support individuals who use those substances. Also includes information on Narcan and how to support someone in an active overdose.

Housing Readiness, How to be a Good Tenant, and Housing Stability Programs

The training session provides a summary of the importance of engaging client after existing to housing and how case management, service providers, and City resources can play a significant role in sustaining long-term client tenancy. The training also provides a wide array of concrete Housing Stability resources (rent stabilization, eviction protection, tenant rights, etc.) available to residents through the City and County of Denver, the State of Colorado, and non-profit organizations.

Low Barrier Sheltering

This training reviews the tenets of providing a low-barrier shelter environment. Topics include safety, guest expectations, housing-focused interactions, and sheltering for all populations.

Motivational Interviewing

This training focuses on Motivational Interviewing techniques that can support employees working with people experiencing homelessness such as active listening, OARS, and how these techniques can support staff in providing person-centered care.

Rapid Resolution and Rapid Exit

Rapid Resolution is a nationally uses model that utilizes a household’s protective factors with case management and financial resources to quickly resolve a bout of housing instability or homelessness.

Trauma Informed Care

This training explores the philosophy of Trauma Informed Care frameworks and how to apply those ideas to people experiencing homelessness.  Information includes types of trauma and associated behaviors and how to support people experiencing or recovering from trauma in a shelter/homeless services setting.

Denver's Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Equitable Access to Services (IDDEAS) Program

The Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Equitable Access to Services (IDDEAS) Program manages a local tax fund dedicated to services and supports for Denver residents with I/DD. This video provides training for service providers on what IDDEAS is and how clients can access IDDEAS support for housing stability

This training, presented by Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network, provides an overview of current trends and immigration issues for new arrivals in CO, as well as common pathways toward lawful immigration status.

Basics of Shelter Case Management (Parts 1 -3)

Part 1: Case Management Basics
This case management 101 training is intended for those who are new to shelter case management, or looking for a refresher on these concepts. This training covers factors leading to homelessness, HOST's philosophy on case management, essential case management skills, and a case management roadmap.
