Denver – Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is wrapping up maintenance work on the West 8th Avenue viaduct and plans to fully close the bridge this weekend for resurfacing.

The closure of the W. 8th Avenue bridge between Tejon and Mariposa streets will begin at 7 a.m. Friday, June 6. It will reopen the end of the day on Monday, June 9.

During the closure of the bridge, motorists travelling east on 8th Avenue will be routed north on Wyandot Street to W. 13th Avenue, then east toward Mariposa Street and south back toward 8th Avenue. See detour map below for more details. Drivers on I-25 are encouraged to use 6th Avenue or Colfax Avenue as alternate routes.

A full bridge closure allows crews to complete the resurfacing work including mill, overlay and striping operations within a shorter period of time, minimizing extended impacts to the traveling public. Access will be maintained to all businesses.

When the resurfacing work is done, the project will be fully complete with no further impacts to the traveling public. The $1.5M infrastructure improvement project was funded by the voter-approved Elevate Denver Bond to strengthen the structure, spot-repair the bridge deck and replace the viaduct's expansion joints, which allow a bridge to expand and contract.
