Travel and Safety Improvements at Broadway & I-25

Project Summary

DOTI is making travel and safety improvements at Broadway & I-25 that include replacing the existing at-grade southbound on-ramp to I-25 from Broadway with an elevated ramp to ease vehicle congestion and enhance safety. Other work will improve access to the I-25 & Broadway Station for people who walk and bike.

Completed Milestones

Since the project began last summer, the project has:

  • Opened new elevated on-ramp to southbound I-25 from Broadway.
  • Extended Bannock Road south of Exposition Avenue, providing access to the RTD Park-n-Ride from the north. This includes: improved lighting, landscaping and a new multi-use pathway.
  • Completed sanitary sewer and storm sewer work throughout the area.
  • Constructed a major portion of the elevated on-ramp to southbound I-25 , including two new bridges.
  • Constructed a temporary parking lot, W. Exposition from Broadway to Bannock and elevated I-25 on-ramp across Broadway.
  • Reconstructed E. Exposition from Broadway to Lincoln and installed new traffic signals at both intersections.
  • Reconstructed east sidewalk between Ohio and Kentucky.

By Spring 2026, this project will:

  • Expand multi-use pathways for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Connect the Broadway bike lane to the RTD Broadway station.
  • Install new traffic signals at Ohio Avenue (between Broadway and Lincoln Street) and at Broadway and Kentucky Avenue.
  • Reconstruct local streets including Lincoln, Broadway, Kentucky and Ohio.
  • Reconstruct Kentucky Avenue, combining the existing intersection with the elevated southbound on-ramp to I-25.
  • Extend bikeway from Center to Exposition.

The I-25 & Broadway Station is the second busiest in the RTD system and supports a high frequency of bus travel along the Broadway corridor, connecting Englewood to downtown Denver.

For your safety, please do not travel through the active construction site.

  • To access the station from the south, follow west Kentucky.
  • To access the station from the north, follow Exposition and Bannock.

Please see the current pedestrian access map linked here for details.

Please note that there will be variable traffic patterns along Broadway for the duration of this project. All lane closures will be communicated in advance.

All project activities are weather- and site-condition-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.

Current Access to Southbound and Northbound I-25

Accessing the southbound I-25 on ramp: Drivers going south on Broadway will now turn right to access the I-25 southbound on-ramp at Ohio Avenue. Those heading north on Broadway will continue onto Walsh Place and Lincoln, turn left at Exposition and another left at Broadway. Drivers can then turn right onto the on-ramp at Ohio.

Accessing the northbound I-25 on-ramp: Northbound I-25 access remains at Lincoln for drivers on northbound Broadway. Drivers on southbound Broadway are encouraged to access I-25 using Alameda or Mississippi.

Project Schedule

Construction began summer 2023, with completion expected spring 2026. Crews will be on-site between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday–Friday, with occasional weekend work to lessen travel impacts. Sidewalk and roadway impacts will be communicated weekly.
