Fire Safety Operational Permit Application Process

Operational permits are issued for processes and materials and must be renewed every year, fees will be assessed at issuance and renewal. 

Operational permits are effective for 12 months from the date of issue unless otherwise stated on the permit. You will receive notice via the contact information on file as a reminder of pending expired permits. Please contact us if there are any changes that would affect the status of your permit. 
 
Operational permits are issued via E-Permits - Accela Citizen Access. Please follow the steps to register and apply for permits.

For Fire Construction Permits (required by IFCA 105.7) please submit through Development Services.

Step 1.Create an account 

Denver’s e-permit system, Accela Citizen Access, is the public user’s means of submitting applications and tracking their progress, as well as monitoring permit activity and renewals. In order for a public user to access e-permits, they must first register for an account.

On the home page, click on Register for an account. 

If you already have an account, please proceed to the next step.

  • If you have a problem with the electronic permission feature, try using a different web browser.
  • Make sure to enable pop-up windows.

Step 2.Log in and submit an application

Once you have logged in to the system, click on FIRE in the top right hand corner. 

Choose Create an Application. (If you have other applications already in progress, you can also choose Search Applications).

Accept the disclaimer and click to Continue Application. 

Choose the Operational Permit type related to your occupancy. For all Marijuana Occupancies, please use the Marijuana Operational Permit. 

Step 3.Complete application and submit 

Once you have filled out all required information and reviewed for accuracy you will submit the application for review. 

Permits will be reviewed in the order in which they are received. 

Once reviewed and approved, fees will be assessed and you will be notified via email with instructions to pay. 

Step 4.Pay fees and obtain permit 

Once fees have been paid you will receive a copy of your permit via attachment to your email. 

Step 5.Renew permits 

Operational permits must be renewed every year. 

You will be notified via email for permits which are accepted for renewal with instructions on how to renew.

Operational permits are issued via E-Permits - Accela Citizen Access. We do not accept walk in permit applications at this time. 

E-Permits - Accela Citizen Access

 

Permits for new construction or installation of life safety systems are issued following plan review through Development Services (required by IFCA 105.7).

When a facility or premises involves hazardous materials, processes, or equipment, Operational Permits are also required per IFCA 105.6.
