Commission on Aging

The Denver Commission on Aging (DCoA) works to make Denver a great place for older adults through outreach, communication, and advocacy. The Commission advocates for the rights and needs of older adults, empowers them by sharing information and community resources, and monitors legislation and policy changes that impact their well-being.

Marci Lundy, Chair

Marci Lundy is a Denver-based civic leader and award-winning entrepreneur serving as Chair of Denver’s Commission on Aging. She is an Executive Board Member of Women’s Bean Project and PBS12, and a member of the RTD Citizens Advisory Council, advancing kindness, accessibility, and community engagement.

 

Alison Abraham, Co-Chair

Dr. Alison Abraham is an Associate Professor in Epidemiology and the Vice Chair of Education in Epidemiology at the Colorado School of Public Health with a secondary appointment in Ophthalmology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. Dr. Abraham received her MS in Biomedical Engineering from California State University, Sacramento, her MHS in Biostatistics from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and her PhD in Epidemiology also from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She has worked for over 15 years leading research and consulting on study design and methodology in large and multi-site observational cohort studies focused on health issues such as chronic kidney disease, HIV, cognitive health, substance use and vision loss.

Currently, Dr. Abraham is conducting research and advocacy in aging and sensory health, where she connects with researchers, policy makers and the community about the ways in which sensory loss can be a barrier to healthy aging. She is a passionate advocate for empowering individuals and communities to age well and age happy, focusing on personally meaningful health outcomes, building resiliency and maximizing quality of life. Dr Abraham is the Principal Investigator of several large studies of eye disease and vision loss in aging communities, with an emphasis on adults aging with HIV. She works with the Colorado Health Network to integrate aging services and geriatric care models into traditional HIV services, including vision and hearing screening and access to glasses and hearing aids.

Biswanath Das, Secretary

Presently working as a dedicated Sr. Manager of Audit & Compliance at Amazon, my professional journey is deeply intertwined with a commitment to fostering ethical practices and social equity. With over two decades of experience across diverse industries and cultures, my work is not just about ensuring compliance; it’s about building systems that enhance the well-being of our communities. Born into a persecuted migrant family from Bangladesh and raised in Kolkata, India, I understand the importance of creating opportunities and support structures that allow every individual to thrive, especially our aging population.

Holding Master's degrees in Accounting, Finance (MBA), and Business Analytics from the University of Denver, and as a Chartered and Cost Accountant, I leverage my expertise to contribute meaningfully to public policy-making and community development. My involvement with the Denver Commission of Aging is driven by a passion to create sustainable solutions that ensure our elders live with dignity and joy.

As a parent of two, my life’s purpose is to help build a world where future generations can prosper, grounded in strong cultural values and a commitment to giving back to society. My role is not just a profession but a mission to make a lasting, positive impact on our society.

Haley Sanner

Portrait of Haley Sanner Haley Sanner (she/her) joined the Denver Commission on Aging in early 2024, serves as the Secretary, and supports the Outreach committee. Haley currently works as the Healthy Aging Programs Manager at Colorado Health Network supporting programs and services for older adults living with HIV. She has worked in the aging field for over 10 years, including with the AARP Foundation, LeadingAge Virginia and Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountain. She has worked internationally in Nepal for over three years with aging non-profits and older adult community groups and bilingually exploring cultural perspective towards aging and multigenerational connections. As one of the founders and co-creators of Collective Healing Through Art, she helped design a trauma-informed curriculum that uses art and storytelling to unpack oppressive systems and teach psychosocial coping skills with intergenerational participants. Haley is passionate about designing programs that build bridges between people, research and programmatic solutions to connect us in more equitable, sustainable and communal ways across generations. Haley has a BS in Mathematics from Davidson College with specializations in social determinants of health, specifically social isolation and emotional wellbeing. Haley loves spending time in Colorado’s beautiful outdoors skiing, biking and playing competitive ultimate Frisbee.

Erin Burk-Leaver

Portrait of Erin Burk-Leaver, Denver Commission on Aging Erin Burk-Leaver, MPH, MA Director of Public Health Interventions at Colorado Health Network, a statewide HIV/AIDS Service Organization, has worked in the field of gerontology for over 10 years, dedicating her career to furthering the discourse around public health and aging, with a special emphasis on older people living with HIV (PLWH). As Director of Public Health Interventions, Ms. Burk-Leaver drives the strategic direction of all Community Engagement programs at CHN, including developing programmatic innovations, capacity, and infrastructure to support specialized community-based programs to support older PLWH, youth, and Latinx impacted by HIV across Colorado.

Ms. Burk-Leaver also serves as the Principal Investigator for HRSA SPNS HIV & Aging Initiative (Demonstration Site), Commissioner on the City of Denver Commission on Aging, and Section Councilor for the American Public Health Association’s Section on HIV/AIDS. Ms. Burk-Leaver received her Masters of Public Health and Bioethics from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She is pursuing her Doctorate of Public Health at the University of Colorado School of Public Health in Aurora, Colorado.  

Chrissy Esposito

Chrissy-Esposito.jpgChrissy Esposito is a Senior Policy Analyst at the Colorado Health Institute who conducts complex needs assessments, facilitation, and evaluation. She leads CHI's aging and long-term care portfolio. Her additional focus areas include environmental health and veterans' health.

She earned a master’s degree in public health from the Colorado School of Public Health at Colorado State University. While at CSU, Chrissy interned at the Geospatial Centroid, where she supported graduate students, professors, and unaffiliated clients working on geospatial projects. Her graduate research involved collaborating with the Boulder County Public Health Department and performing a retrospective spatial and temporal analysis of West Nile Virus in Boulder County. She holds a bachelor’s degree in geography with a focus in geospatial and environmental analysis from Virginia Tech.

Tony Smith

R. Tony Smith is a resident of Denver since 2000 and is a leader in creating meaningful relationships, allies and experiences by propelling people, organizations and causes. His specialties are event production, civic navigation, marketing and public relations. Tony has served the community via boards and Commissions including Colorado Festivals and Events and Association, Denver Commission on Cultural Affairs, Denver Parks and Rec Advisory Board, the LGBT Commission, and the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival.

Carol LeBoo

Carol LeBoo was recently appointed to the Commission in 2024 after a lengthy career as an attorney for the federal government. She grew up in Washington, DC and has lived in Colorado for 35 years. Carol received a Juris Doctor degree from Howard University School of Law, a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Catholic University of America and a Bachelor of Science degree from Case Western University. As an attorney she served as the Associate General Counsel for several agencies where she represented senior managers in labor and employment law cases before administrative fora which included the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Merit Systems Protection Board and the Federal Labor Relations Authority. Carol currently works as a contract attorney for various organizations and enjoys free time traveling.
