Employee Pension Plan The Denver Employee Retirement Plan (DERP), is the city employees defined benefit pension plan. DERP provides a guaranteed lifetime pension benefit for our employees and possibly their beneficiary. Contributions to DERP are made by our employees and the city. Employees become vested and eligible for a lifetime pension benefit after 5 years of credited service.
Deferred Compensation 457(b) We offer our employees a separate, personal, retirement savings (457b) program. The plan is a supplement to the our pension plan and Social Security. Summit Savings is a public-sector equivalent to the private sector’s 401k plans. Our employees choose to have payroll deductions that are either pre-tax and/or after-tax (Roth). The city does not match deferred compensation contributions.
City-Paid Short- and Long-Term Disability Plan To help protect our employee's income if unable to work due to injury or illness, we offer short-term and long-term disability benefits. All disability plans are offered through Standard Insurance Company.
Contributions to Employees' Health Savings Accounts We contribute to our employees' health savings accounts. For every $1 our employees contribute to their HSA accounts, we contribute $2, up to some limits. Employees can also earn a $600 HSA deposit by completing our Wellness Incentive.
Financial Health Classes My Secure Advantage (MSA) is our financial well-being partner. Our employees can learn how to manage student loans, buy a home, reduce debt, plan their retirement and more. MSA offers year-round access to online education, budgeting software, and other financial tools. Employees also get 90 days of free, confidential money coaching every year.
Student Loan Forgiveness Our employees may be eligible for public service loan forgiveness for federal student loans. This federal program supports public service workers by forgiving loans after 120 payments and 10 years of full-time employment with the city.
Flexible Spending Accounts for Health Care, Dependent Care & Parking With a flexible spending account (FSA), our employees can set aside money on a pre-tax basis from their paycheck to cover health care (medical, dental and vision), dependent day care and/or qualified parking expenses.
