Securing the Cities Grant (STC)

The Securing the Cities (STC) program aims to reduce the risk of a radiological or nuclear attack in major metropolitan areas across the United States. Through STC, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) provides radiological and nuclear detection equipment, training, exercise support, and technical expertise to help keep communities safe.

STC began in 2006 as a pilot in the New York City, Jersey City, and Newark region. It has since expanded to 12 other regions across the country, including Los Angeles and Long Beach, the National Capital Region, Houston, Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, Miami, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Seattle.

The Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Act of 2018 formally authorized STC and supported this growth, helping strengthen our nation’s ability to detect and prevent radiological and nuclear threats.
