Ruby Hill Rail Yard Now Open for 2022 Season
Published on February 09, 2022
The Ruby Hill Rail Yard is now officially open for the 2022 Season. Featuring ten rails and boxes of varying configurations and skill level, the rail yard is available to both snowboarders and skiers and is absolutely free. Weather permitting, the rail yard will be open into March.
After a warm and dry start to the winter season, recent cold weather has finally delivered conditions to allow for snowmaking and building of the rail yard. Winter Park Resort provided snow guns and technical assistance in snowmaking efforts, along with volunteers who joined the Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) team to bring the excitement and energy of skiing and snowboarding to Ruby Hill Park.
Beginning February 17, DPR will provide free rental equipment (snowboards, boots, helmets) on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The Ruby Hill Rail Yard was created in 2007 as a joint effort between Denver Parks and Recreation and Winter Park Resort to offer a winter sport experience in an urban setting. Winter Park provides the rails, terrain park design and staff; and DPR provides the location and management. More than 25 volunteers work tirelessly each season to help make the rail yard possible.
Ruby Hill Park is located off South Platte River Drive and West Florida Avenue. The rail yard is open every day during regular park hours from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and is lighted every day from dusk until 9:00 p.m. Ruby Hill Rail Yard is free to the public.
DPR is currently developing an Outdoor Adventures & Alternative Sports Master Plan to identify nontraditional recreation trends and new program opportunities over the next 20 years. The second public meeting to learn about draft goals and strategies is on Thursday, February 24. Find more information and register for the meeting.
