Tennessee Utility Corridor Irrigation Replacement

Sign for Athmar neighborhod in unmanaged landscape along the Tennessee Utility Corridor

In partnership with the Athmar Park Neighborhood Association, Denver Urban Gardens, and others, Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) is investing in landscape improvements along the Tennessee Utility Corridor.  This land is owned by Xcel Energy, but is under a license agreement for DPR to maintain the area as a public park.

This project includes full irrigation replacement along eight blocks between Federal and Zuni. The new irrigation system will continue to support the Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) Food Forest. In addition, Denver Park Trust will support the installation of pollinator gardens.

Previous improvements along the corridor include a concrete trail along with other community-based improvements through the Athmar Park Neighborhood Association (APNA) which coordinated with DUG to grow the food forest. APNA has also mobilized dozens of volunteers and worked with local artists to create murals to create two large art murals along the corridor. Denver Park Trust and the Denver Public Library also coordinated with APNA to install a Story Walk that encourages families to walk the path and read a bilingual children’s book!  These types of improvements have made a significant impact to the corridor over the past two years-- check out  stories from Denver 7 from January 16, 2024 and March 17, 2024.
