District One

School Resource Officers (SRO) are Denver police officers assigned to Denver Public High Schools. While safety, in and around the school, is of the upmost importance for the SRO, so is connecting with students, families, and staff to build and foster positive relationships. Together, we strive to maintain a secure and nurturing space for education to thrive.

Officer Humberto Marquez - West High School

Officer Humberto Marquez excitedly joins the West High School community where he brings 18 years of law enforcement experience. As a father to three sons, Officer Marquez understands what it is like for students and looks forward to mentoring and working with the students at West HS. As a Denver Public School alum, Officer Marquez went on to play college football at Southwestern College and is proud to bring his experience to the West HS family.

Officer Julian Martinez is accustomed to being involved with students through coaching and his four years of law enforcement experience. He joins the North High School community where he looks forward to helping students and their families through building relationships, offering resources, and being a mentor. Officer Martinez is excited to be a part of the NHS family and will do his best to support the students and staff in his role as a School Resource Officer.

The Outreach Case Coordinator (OCC) program is part of DPD's commitment to approaching public safety services with a focus on helping to address the needs of our residents. This is accomplished by providing long-term connections to available services and supports. Clients could include community members who are experiencing substance misuse, behavioral health issues, homelessness or needing housing system navigation, immigrant and refugee system navigation, human services navigation, and many others.

What does an Outreach Case Coordinator Do?

• Build a bridge between the community and the Denver Police Department
• Provide educational material that highlights service providers to individuals who are in need
• Assist individuals and families with finding available services
• Help identify the individual's goals and needs
• Maintain communication with individuals to evaluate the plan to ensure it is meeting the client's goals

Commander Edward Leger was promoted to Commander in October 2023, serving the Denver Police Department for 34 years as a sworn officer.

During his career, Commander Leger has had various roles and responsibilities, including patrol officer; detective in general assignment; Gang Unit and Narcotics; patrol sergeant in Districts 1 and 4; investigative sergeant in District One Investigations; Robbery Unit; Cold Case Unit and Homicide Unit; section lieutenant in Major Crimes Sex Crimes and Missing and Exploited Persons; and administrative lieutenant at Denver International Airport.

Commander Leger has attended several leadership schools, including Session 73; Senior Management Institute for Police, Boston, Massachusetts; Force Science Institute; FBI LEEDA Command Leadership Institute; ACE LEO Airport Certified Employee; and most recently, the Police Commanders Crime Reduction Course.

Commander Leger is currently serving on the board of the Denver Police Officers Foundation and was the founding President of the Denver Police Foundation.

Commander Leger is a proud Colorado native and enjoys traveling, hunting, and quality time with his family.
