Denver Police Arrest Homicide Suspect

Denver – Wednesday, September 20, 2023 – The Denver Police Department made an arrest related to the shooting that occurred on August 19, 2023, at approximately 3:50 a.m., at 28th Street and Welton Street. Denver Police officers responded to the area after reports of a shooting and ShotSpotter gunshot detection system alerts. When officers arrived, they located four victims suffering from gunshot wounds. One victim, later identified as Gulian Musiwa (10/25/1997), was pronounced deceased at the scene and the second victim, later identified as Lumumba Sayers (9/3/1999) was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The other two adult victims were also transported to the hospital and survived their injuries.

Through the hard work of investigators, as well as anonymous tips from the community, detectives identified the suspect who shot the victims as Tyrell Braxton (8/17/1999). Braxton was arrested Tuesday, September 19, 2023, and is currently being held for investigation of First-Degree Murder and First-Degree Assault. Per standard protocol, the Denver District Attorney’s Office will make the final determination regarding charges.
