HIV Prevention

Taking care of your health includes regular HIV testing and prevention. Below, you’ll find information on PrEP, PEP, and testing resources. Talk to your healthcare provider to explore the best options for you.

PrEP

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a medication, available as pills or shots, that significantly reduces the risk of acquiring HIV. For more information, call 1-844-367-7075 or use the PrEP provider locator to find a provider near you:

Need Help Paying for PrEP?

The cost of PrEP, including medications, medical appointments, and lab work, is typically covered by insurance. If you don’t have insurance or your plan doesn’t cover it, Colorado offers one of the best financial assistance programs in the country to help with the costs.

PEP

Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) involves taking HIV medications within 72 hours (3 days) after potential exposure to help prevent the virus. This treatment lasts for 28 days.

If you think you may have been exposed, contact your healthcare provider, or visit an urgent care center or emergency room right away. You can also reach out to the Denver Sexual Health Clinic's Linkage to Care team at 720-415-7075 via call or text.
