HIV Testing and Prevention

Sexual health and wellbeing is an important aspect of staying healthy. Below is information about PrEP, PEP, and free testing for HIV and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Please talk to your health care provider to learn more about options that are best for you.   

PrEP

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a medication you take daily that can reduce your chance of getting HIV. Many clinics and providers throughout Denver provide PrEP. Learn more about PrEP

  • Visit the PrEP Page on the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) website to learn about getting on PrEP and paying for PrEP .
  • Call the Denver Health Outreach team at (303) 602-3540 to learn about PrEP.
  • Ask the Outreach team about the financial assistance programs available to help people pay for PrEP. 
  • Visit the Denver Health Sexual Health Outreach Site at 234 N. Broadway, Denver, CO 80203 or call at 720-415-7075.
  • Visit the HIV Care and Support Services Map to find locations in the Denver metro area that prescribe PrEP.

PEP 

Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) helps prevent someone from getting HIV soon after a possible exposure. 

To be effective, you must start PEP within 72 hours (3 days) after the potential exposure. PEP consists of taking medicines once or twice a day, for 28 days. Learn more about PEP

If you feel you have been exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours you can: 

  • Contact your healthcare provider.
  • Visit the Denver Health Sexual Health Outreach Site at 234 N. Broadway, Denver, CO 80203, Mondays through Fridays from 8am to 5pm or call at 720-415-7075.
  • If it is outside our regular hours, you can visit an Emergency Department or Urgent Care.
