Current COVID-19 Data

In the endemic phase of COVID-19, the ways in which we collect and analyze data has changed. In November 2023, the Denver Department of Public Health & Environment (DDPHE) updated and streamlined COVID-19 dashboards to better reflect the current state of COVID-19 in Denver. Data included in this dashboard only include PCR tests administered in healthcare settings and do not include at-home COVID-19 tests. This means there are likely other cases of COVID-19 in Denver that are unreported, and the incidence rate may not accurately reflect COVID-19 in the community. While our exact count of COVID-19 looks lower than it likely is, we continue to utilize the available data to track general disease trends in the community.

Some information about endemic COVID-19 data

  • Testing rate- In this model, testing rate is calculated by taking the seven-day average of testing counts and dividing that by the total Denver population.
  • Positivity rate- In this model, positivity rates are calculated by taking the seven-day average of positive COVID-19 tests and dividing it by the seven-day average of all COVID-19 tests. These are the positivity rates based on PCR tests, and many who go to a healthcare professional for a PCR test have a known COVID-19 exposure or may be experiencing symptoms.
  • Incidence rate- In this model, incidence rate is calculated by taking the number of COVID-19 cases and dividing by the total Denver population. This number is then multiplied by 100,000 to reflect a rate per 100,000 individuals.
  • Vaccination rate- Includes all COVID-19 vaccine doses given to Denver County residents. The rate represents what percent of Denver residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in each time window.
