DDPHE Blog: Stay Covered Through Health First Colorado and CHP+
Published on February 12, 2024
The Denver Department of Public Health & Environment wants to help ensure Denver residents who are on Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) or Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) stay covered! Since the end of the public health emergency, Health First Colorado and CHP+ is returning to normal renewal processes. It’s important to take steps now to make sure you get the information you will need to continue your coverage. Not all members will be renewed at the same time. Colorado will take 12 months (14 months including noticing) to renew members based on your annual renewal date. Some people will be automatically renewed based on the most recent information already on file with the state. Other people will need to take action and complete the renewal packet to see if they still qualify for Health First Colorado or CHP+.
What you can do:
Update your contact information
Make sure Health First Colorado and CHP+ has your current mailing address, phone number, email or other contact information. This way, you can be contacted about your Health First Colorado or CHP+ coverage. It’s easy to update your address by visiting CO.gov/PEAK to change your contact information.
Check your mail, email, and PEAK mailbox and take action when you get official messages
You may get a renewal packet in the mail or an email about renewing your Health First Colorado or CHP+ coverage. If you get a renewal packet, fill it out, sign it and return it right away. You can go to the Health First Colorado app and opt into notifications that will alert you when you have a new message. You can also get notifications through your PEAK account. This may help you avoid a gap in your coverage. You can create a free PEAK account at CO.gov/PEAK and download the free Health First Colorado app from your app store.
What if you don’t qualify for Medicaid or CHP+?
If you or a family member no longer qualify for Health First Colorado or CHP+, you may be able to buy a health plan through Connect for Health Colorado, Colorado’s official health insurance marketplace. You may qualify for financial help to lower the cost of private health insurance.
