Publicly Released Recordings Pursuant to C.R.S. § 24-31-90
Colorado Revised Statute § 24-31-902(2)(a) requires law enforcement agencies to release audio and video recordings, upon request, of incidents associated with a complaint of peace officer misconduct. The following recordings are being made publicly-available pursuant to Colorado law.
WARNING -- VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED: The audio and video recordings posted on this page may include graphic and disturbing imagery and may not be suitable for viewing by children.
To protect substantial privacy interests of criminal defendants, victims, witnesses, juveniles, or informants, prior to publicly posting any recordings, the Denver Department of Public Safety, as permitted by Colorado law, will blur all video depicting nudity; a sexual assault; a medical emergency; private medical information; a mental health crisis; a victim interview; a minor, including any images or information that might undermine the requirement to keep certain juvenile records confidential; any personal information other than the name of any person not arrested, cited, charged, or issued a written warning, including a government-issued identification number, date of birth, address, or financial information; significantly explicit and gruesome bodily injury (unless the injury was caused by a peace officer); and/or the interior of a home or treatment facility.
All video and audio recordings depicting a death will be made available for review upon request by the decedent’s spouse, parent, legal guardian, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, significant other, or other lawful representative at least 72-hours prior to public release.
