Join the City and County of Denver’s 23rd GIS Day celebration on Wednesday, November 20th, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM live in person at the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building (201 W. Colfax Ave.) 4th Floor rooms 4-F6 & 4-G2. GIS Day is a free event, open to the public, and does not require registration. This year’s event will focus on GIS use at the City and County of Denver and real-world application by various city agencies and departments. The event will showcase a wide range of GIS products, tools, and applications from the City’s GIS community. There will be exhibits by City Agencies and vendors, a map gallery, and lightning talks. GIS Day is an international event that recognizes geography’s importance, advances in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, and how it enables spatial intelligence, visualization, and analytics to serve the needs of the City. GIS is used to map and analyze data to understand our world and effectively make decisions.

    • Beau Legeer (Director, Imagery and Remote Sensing at Esri) The Evolution of Imagery in Mapping and GIS - The utilization of imagery and remote sensing data to generate insights date back nearly a century. However, their application in mapping and GIS workflows is relatively recent and often complex, limiting scalability. Recent advancements in data sources and methodologies, particularly with the rise of artificial intelligence, have broadened access to information extraction and enhanced its applicability.

      This keynote will delve into the integration of imagery and remote sensing data within mapping applications, highlighting the remarkable advancements in the past five years. We’ll focus on the transformative capabilities brought about by computer vision techniques, AI, and sophisticated computing platforms, which deliver high-value information across various industries with impressive temporal frequency. Examples of cutting-edge remote sensing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning processes will be showcased.
