17th Ave Closure Impacts on City Park Events

Published on June 08, 2021

Plan Ahead and Allow Extra Travel Time

A construction project has closed 17th Ave going in both directions, west of Colorado Blvd to west of Jackson St. Additionally, 17th Ave between Garfield St and York St has been reduced to one lane for eastbound traffic. Parking on 17th Ave between Colorado Blvd and York Street is greatly reduced and prohibited on some stretches.

Update 7/23/21 -- In advance of upcoming weekend closures of Colorado Blvd. (expected to begin in mid-August), there will be some single lane closures of Colorado Blvd. coming in a few weeks for utility potholing and relocates.

The road closure and parking restrictions are expected to last throughout the summer (find out more about the construction project) and creates transportation and parking challenges for those attending events in City Park.

City Park event goers are encouraged to walk, ride bikes and scooters or take public transportation (RTD Route 20 has been adjusted to accommodate the construction project (visit the RTD website for details). (A bike corral is located just south of the City Park Pavilion during Sunday night City Park Jazz concerts.)

If traveling by car, follow the alternative routes on the DETOURS map and allow extra time for heavy traffic, parking and walking to the event area. NOTE that while the map suggests a detour of 26th Ave, traffic on that street is busier than usual and drivers may want to consider going further north to MLK Jr Blvd.

There is very limited parking in City Park and spots on park roads and near the Museum of Nature and Science fill early. ADA parking is first come, first served in the parking lot directly north of the City Park Pavilion.

Plan ahead, allow extra time and enjoy your summer!
