Boating

Permits for hand-launched vessels are no longer required.

Motorized boating and sailing will not be permitted on Sloan’s Lake in 2021. However, non-motorized, hand launched craft such as canoes, paddleboards, and kayaks will be allowed.  As Sloan’s Lake is extremely shallow, an environmental study is being conducted to better understand the impact of various recreational activities that effect the lake.  This study will assist us in determining future recreation on Sloan’s Lake while taking into consideration public safety and the long-term health of the lake.

Five Denver lakes are open for hand-launched boating (no permits required):

  • Sloan's Lake
  • Rocky Mountain Lake
  • Berkeley Lake
  • Smith Lake (Washington Park)
  • Ferril Lake (City Park)

All other park lakes within the city are closed to boating activities.

Boating is at your own risk. All vessels must follow state boating statues and regulations. A sound-producing device and least one life jacket per person aboard is required to be on all vessels.
