Denver COVID-19 Status Update - Feb. 3, 2023

Published on February 03, 2023

Spread the Love This Valentine’s Day, Not COVID-19

This Valentine’s Day, show your love to those around you by staying up to date with all recommended doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Just like the virus has evolved, so has the vaccine. Getting the updated vaccine gives you targeted protection from the COVID-19 variants circulating right now. It’s not too late to get a flu vaccine, either! It’s an important step to stay healthy, and you can get it the same time you get your COVID-19 vaccine or booster. If you feel sick, stay home, isolate and get tested. If you test positive, contact your health care provider for treatment. Effective treatment for COVID-19 is available if it is administered within five to seven days of symptom onset. More information and resources are available at denvergov.org/covid19.

COVID-19 Mid-Winter Increase

As epidemiologists with the Denver Department of Public Health & Environment (DDPHE) expected, COVID-19 incidence and positivity are on the rise. But the most recent data also indicates hospitalizations are down. DDPHE continues to monitor COVID-19 cases, including the new XBB.1.5 variant, which is more contagious and more resistant to existing immunity; and it currently accounts for around 17% of cases in Denver County.

Federal Emergency Declarations to End May 11, 2023, So Will Some Benefits

President Biden announced that federal COVID-19 emergency declarations will end May 11, 2023, since most of the world has returned closer to normalcy nearly three years after the initial declarations. Ending the national emergency will restructure the federal response to treat the virus as an endemic threat that can now be managed through normal public health agencies. The move also shifts the development of vaccines and treatments away from the direct management of the federal government.
