Road Safety Audits (RSAs) are formal examinations of selected roadway entities from a safety performance viewpoint. All RSAs are performed by an independent multidisciplinary team and are highly benefited by including one or more professionals trained in performing RSAs. An RSA qualitatively estimates and reports on potential road safety issues and identifies opportunities for safety improvements for all road users. RSAs can be used in any phase of project development from planning to preliminary engineering to design to construction. RSAs can also be used on any sized project from a minor intersection and roadway retrofits to long corridors.
The RSA team considers the safety of all road users, qualitatively estimates and reports on potential road safety issues, and identifies opportunities for safety improvement. The RSA team reviews police crash reports, reviews local agency crash data, and conducts field observations during different times of the day such as day/night and peak/non-peak hours.
The choice of Road Safety Audit corridors is driven by their proximity to the Equity Index Areas, High Injury Network (HIN), corridors without existing DOTI projects, and high crash rates.
The RSA team selects corridors with few or no DOTI projects present to expand coverage across the Equity Index, HIN and street network within Denver.
