Liquor-licensed drugstore

Sale of beer, wine, and liquor by the package for off-premises consumption. Must be licensed by the State Board of Pharmacy.

Sales and service

  • Sale, service and consumption of beer, wine, and liquor by in sealed containers for off-premises consumption.
  • Can sell food items and all other sundry items at retail drugstores with such sales totaling at least 20% of the licensee's gross annual income. (Effective Jan. 1, 2017)
  • Cannot sell clothing or accessories imprinted with information related to alcohol. (Effective Jan. 1, 2017)

Hours of operation

Seven days a week from 8 a.m. to midnight.

Multiple interests

Multiple ownership is not allowed with liquor-licensed drugstores except in an arts liquor license, an airline public transportation license. Between Jan. 1, 2017 to Jan. 1, 2022 a maximum of five liquor licensed drugstore licenses. (Effective Jan. 1, 2017)

Excise and Licenses must conduct a needs and desires hearing for multiple liquor-licensed drugstore license applications.

Distance restriction

A 500-foot distance restriction from public and parochial schools, colleges, universities, and seminaries applies to new liquor-licensed drugstore applications. 

A 1,500-foot distance restriction from another retail liquor store or liquor-licensed drugstore. (Effective July 1, 2016)

Managers

The names of all managers of liquor-licensed drugstores must be provided to local and state licensing authorities whether a principal to the licensee or someone else manages the licensed premises.
