Sustainability Advisory Council Applications Due January 15, 2021
The Office of Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency (CASR) invites the public to join the Sustainability Advisory Council (SAC) to help guide the implementation of Denver’s climate change-focused policies and programs.
The SAC has long advised the Mayor’s Office on sustainability issues, and with Denver voters having approved Ballot Measure 2A to create the Climate Protection Fund, it is crucial for stakeholders to engage with CASR as it develops the Fund’s first five-year strategic plan.
“We look forward to seating the SAC and its six standing committees with people dedicated to advancing Denver’s ambitious climate goals, and doing so knowing that equity must be our first priority,” said Grace Rink, CASR’s Executive Director.
The SAC’s primary functions are to:
Provide advice and recommendations to CASR for advancing the city’s ambitious goals and effective implementation of the Climate Protection Fund’s five-year strategic plan.
Assist CASR in connecting with the people, communities, businesses, and institutions it serves.
Promote and communicate the principles of sustainability broadly among the community and stakeholders.
The public is invited to apply to join one of the six standing committees of the SAC which work with staff liaisons to advise CASR: (1) Science and Research, (2) Climate Equity and Environmental Justice, (3) Buildings and Homes, (4) Energy, (5) Resource Management, and (6) Sustainable Transportation. The committee co-chairs will serve as voting members of the SAC, along with two at-large members and one member from Denver City Council.
The SAC will meet at least quarterly and each committee will meet at least six times per year. It is anticipated that meetings of the SAC and committees will be held virtually (online) through most of 2021. Interpretation services will be made available.
Applications are due by Friday, January 15, 2021 at 5PM. To learn more and apply, visit: https://www.denvergov.org/content/denvergov/en/climate-sustainability/about-us/where-we-get-input.html.
