Following are answers to common questions we get about public assistance benefits. Please take a quick look through this list. You may find your answer and save yourself a call!

What are your hours of operation?

Our offices at all locations are currently closed for in-person services. However, our staff is still hard at work and ready to help you with any assistance you may need by phone and online.

Call 720-944-4DHS (4347) between the hours of 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please note that some specific programs' hours may vary.

How can I apply for public assistance benefits?

Visit Colorado.gov/PEAK to apply for food, cash, medical, and child care assistance, as well as RTD's LiVE transit program.

In addition, you can complete your recertification, update your address and phone number, and report other changes on Colorado.gov/PEAK.

How can I get a replacement EBT card?

Log on to EBTedge.com to request a replacement card, or call 1-888-328-2656.


How do I get help using the PEAK website?

If you need help with a technical issue on the Colorado.gov/PEAK website, such as password resets, error messages, or problems with navigation, call the PEAK Technical Support Call Center at 1-800-250-7741.

Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.


What are the income limits for food assistance?

Most low-income households can get food assistance. To see if you qualify for SNAP benefits, check out the Colorado Department of Human Services website and complete an online pre-screening to see if you're eligible.


Where can I find my case ID number?

Your case number can be found on all correspondence from us. It starts with "1B."


How do I change my Health First Colorado health plan, get proof of coverage, or ask questions about billing?

For health plan enrollment, call 303-839-2120. For other questions, call Health First Colorado's member contact center at 1-800-221-3943.

How can I find the balance on my EBT card?

You can check the balance on your EBT card by logging on at EBTedge.com or by calling 1-888-328-2656.

How can I submit documents needed for my case?

You can upload documents on the Colorado.gov/PEAK website, leave them in a dropbox at any of our three locations (listed below), fax them to 720-944-3094, or mail them to us at 1200 Federal Blvd., Denver, CO 80204.


How can I obtain forms you need from me?

Great news ... they're all online and ready to be downloaded and printed! Forms you may need include IM14 (Reimbursement of Interim Assistance), Med-9 (Medical Eligibility), and DO88 (DSS/SSA Information and Referral).


How do I get a copy of something from my file?

For confidential client (non-public) records requests, please email carefamrecords@denvergov.org.


Where can I get Temporary Rental and Utility Assistance (TRUA)?

Free public parking is available in both surface lots (limited spaces), street parking, and on the top deck of our parking structure (enter via the "DHS Public Parking" ramp in the middle).

  • Food Assistance (8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday)
  • General Assistance (9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday)
  • Veteran Services (walk-in services Monday through Wednesday, 8-11 a.m. All other hours are by appointment only. Appointments during walk-in hours are highly recommended. Appointments are also highly recommended for meeting with the County Veteran Services officer.)
