Murphy Robinson is the Executive Director of the Department of Public Safety and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the City and County of Denver. He is a member of Mayor Michael B. Hancock’s cabinet and served as the Deputy Mayor in 2019.
As the Executive Director of Public Safety, Mr. Robinson oversees management, discipline, human resources, administrative support and policy direction for Denver Police, Fire and Sheriff’s Departments, the 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center, Community Corrections, Public Safety Youth Programs and GRID (Gang Reduction Initiative of Denver).
In his role as the City’s COO, Mr. Robinson is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Denver on behalf of Mayor Hancock. He oversees a $1.5B budget and 16,000 employees across the city.
Prior to his current positions, Mr. Robinson served as the Executive Director of Denver’s General Services Department where he was responsible for the property management and maintenance of over six million square feet of city-owned land and facilities, $186 million of purchasing contracts, the Denver Security Office and the Energy Office in the City and County of Denver.
Mr. Robinson’s past roles include Chief of Staff/Deputy City Manager for the City of Englewood and Assistant City Manager of General Services for the City of Brighton. He also serves as the founder and president of Robinson Corporations, a successful security and executive protection firm.
A Denver native, Mr. Robinson enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter and is active in multiple community organizations including the I Love You Guys Foundation. He sits on the Visit Denver Board and is a former member of the Board of Equalization, the Board of County Commissioners for the city of Denver, and the Colorado Rangers.
