Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, or DOTI, is beginning work on a project that will create a safer, more convenient connection for people who walk and ride bikes on the High Line Canal Trail. Over the next several months, crews will install an underpass beneath Parker Road to continuously connect the Highline Canal Trail and allow people walking and riding bikes to have a safer crossing at Mississippi Avenue. Currently, trail users cross at street level amid heavy vehicle traffic. The underpass is anticipated to be ready for use in Fall 2021.
Section of E. Mississippi Drive to Close Near Construction Site Until Fall 2021
Beginning January 2021, East Mississippi Drive will be closed between South Quince Way and South Rosemary Way until Fall 2021, so construction crews can stage equipment for underpass installation beneath South Parker Road. Signage will be posted to alert drivers about the closure and detour.
People can still access the neighborhood by taking South Parker Road to Rosemary Way, or, by taking South Quebec Way to the Galilee Baptist Church entrance.
The underpass project is creating a safer, more convenient connection for High Line Canal Trail users who currently cross the intersection of S. Parker Road & E. Mississippi Avenue at street level amid heavy vehicle traffic. Over the next several months, crews will install an underpass beneath S. Parker Road at this intersection to continuously connect the Highline Canal Trail and allow people walking and riding bikes to have a safer crossing.
All work is weather dependent and subject to change. The public’s patience and cooperation during construction are greatly appreciated.
While work is underway, a section of the High Line Canal Trail that runs adjacent to Parker Road at the East Mississippi Avenue intersection will be closed. Detour signs will be posted to reroute people on bikes to a new two-way bikeway on Valentia Street from East Mississippi Avenue to Fairmount Drive. Pedestrians will be rerouted to the sidewalk along that stretch of Valentia Street.
Construction began in the Fall 2020 and work is expected to be completed in the Fall 2021.
