Why have centers not opened?
DPR has been without approx. 1,200 on-call employees to staff its numerous programs and 30 facilities. Since early in the pandemic, recreation centers and full-time staff have had to adjust to serve the pressing needs of the city. Centers have been repurposed and staff have been redeployed to support testing and vaccination efforts, emergency shelters, free meal service, online learning labs, virtual programming, park operations, and the operations of other city agencies.
When will Learning Labs close?

How is the decision being made on what opens first?
Decisions regarding our reopening plan were guided by equity and considering neighborhoods of greatest need along with current staffing limitations. Services have been spread throughout the city to maximize reach while on-call staff are recruited, rehired, and trained.
Will virtual programming continue?
Virtual programing will continue until further notice. Schedules will vary through the remainder of 2021, based on instructor opportunities as we onboard on-call staff and fill other staffing gaps.
When will gyms and sport courts open?
Indoor gymnasiums and sport courts will remain closed until further notice.
