Denver Police Department Makes Arrest in Homicide

DENVER – Friday, January 8, 2021 – The Denver Police Department (DPD) announces that Benjamin David Satterthwaite, DOB 7/29/1992, was arrested today for investigation of First Degree Murder in the homicide involving human remains which were discovered in suitcases in the 1700 block of South Java Way on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.

On January 1, 2021, Denver Police officers responded to an apartment in the 2800 block of South Federal Blvd. on medical-related call. There they located evidence and a crime scene consistent with this homicide case, and follow-up investigation resulted in Satterthwaite’s arrest. While the identity of the adult male victim has not yet been confirmed by the Office of Medical Examiner, DPD believes it knows who he is and that the victim and suspect were known to each other.

The probable cause statement is sealed and the booking photo is unavailable at this time. Because this investigation is ongoing and because the probable cause statement is sealed, additional details are not available for release at this time.
