Local Ballot Measures

Navigating a ballot can be overwhelming. This is some of the common terminology and a breakdown of the structure of the ballot.

  • A ballot question listed as a "referred question" proposes a change to the Denver local laws and was referred to the voters by Denver City Council.
  • A ballot question listed as a "initiated ordinance" proposes a change to the Denver Revised Municipal Code and was referred to the voters by petition.
  • A "yes/for" vote is a vote in favor of changing current law or existing circumstances, and a "no/against" vote on any ballot question is a vote against changing current law or existing circumstances.
