Testing Calendar

The Commission will attempt to adhere to the following schedule.  However, circumstances or unforeseen events may require the rescheduling of testing dates or alteration of this calendar.

Police Officer

Applications and Test Registration Opens On:
September 14, 2015 and closes September 25, 2015 for testing in October, 2015.


Lateral Police Officer
Lateral Police applicants may apply and test in with entry level applicants as testing becomes available. Additional specific lateral only testing dates and academies will be announced at a later time.

Entry Level Firefighter
The application period for Entry Level Firefighter is currently closed.

Lateral Firefighter
The application period for Lateral Firefighter is currently closed.


  • Applicants will be sent an email to self schedule their testing time after applying.

Testing Calendar

All scheduling is done on a first-come, first-served basis. In order to secure a scheduled test appointment, an application must be completed on-line. On the day of the written test, applicants should arrive at the Civil Service Commission office on the 2nd floor of the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Office Building at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled test appointment. The test will begin promptly at 7:30 a.m. and late arrivals will not be admitted.

WALK-IN TESTING:  If all test appointments are filled or if an applicant does not have a scheduled test appointment, he/she can "walk-in" on any scheduled test date prior to 7:30 a.m.  If there are available computer stations at the close of that day’s registration at 7:31 a.m., then "walk-in's" are allowed to test on a first-come, first-served basis. "Walk-in's"should apply on-line at in order to ensure that they meet the minimum qualifications and to save time on test day if there are available test openings.  The Webb building located at 201 W. Colfax Avenue, Denver, CO 80202 does not open to the public until 7:00 a.m. however, "walk-in" applicants are not prohibited from arriving earlier. Due to the competitive nature of Fire/Police Testing, "walk-in" applicants who arrive prior to 7:00 a.m.must line up at the Court Place entrance of the Webb building (between 14th St. and 15th St.). The Commission anticipates utilizing up to forty (40) computer stations per testing period.

We also encourage you to take advantage of any programs/services available through the Denver Department of Safety Recruitment Section. This includes the practice test sessions conducted at our facilities (See Recruitment).

Prior to scheduling your test appointment, please read and review all the new minimum employment standards to ensure your eligibility.


Were you a no-show?

No-show Policy for Written Test Appointment:
Applicants who fail to show for any scheduled written test appointment or who do not cancel their appointment in advance of their scheduled testing date and time, are assessed a 
$50.00 cancellation fee  and are prohibited from reapplying or retesting until the fee is paid.

If you were a past "no show" the Commission strongly urges you to pay your fee as soon as possible to avoid any unnecessary delays in the application process. The fee payment must be in the form of a personal check, cashier’s check or money order. Cash will not be accepted.

With the $50.00 fee, applicants must include their full legal name, the last four digits of their Social Security number, a day time phone number and must identify the test that was missed.
