Councilman New's Story

Wayne New

Wayne and his wife, Leslie, have lived in Cherry Creek North since 1999. Throughout these years, Wayne has participated in numerous volunteer activities and organizations.  He has served as President of the Cherry Creek North Neighborhood Association; Member and Past Chairman of the Cherry Creek Steering Committee; Board Member of Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods; Inter-Neighborhood Cooperation Delegate; and Cherry Creek Area Plan Update Co-Chair.  Through this experience, he has gained an understanding of the important relationships and delivery systems between the city and its citizens; the area’s economic development planning and zoning; and the key issues that affect the quality of life in our unique neighborhoods and business communities.

Wayne is a retired healthcare consultant and a financial analyst having held executive management positions in children’s hospitals nationwide. He has managed some of the nation’s most complex academic and community hospitals, each with budgets from $500 million to over $1 billion and over 2,500 employees and 300-plus physicians. He consulted with the Child Health Corporation of America on many operational improvement projects for 43 of the largest children’s hospitals in the nation. Wayne’s high quality, cost effective hospital experience provides a blend of public service with business that aligns well with the responsibilities of a City Council seat: fiscal responsibility and the public welfare.

Wayne holds a BS in Industrial Management from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from Georgia State University.  He has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Kansas, Graduate School of Nursing, teaching hospital budget and finance.  Wayne participates in the national and state level Baldrige Performance Excellence Programs which promote excellence in business development and operations. His experience in promoting best practices and performance results will benefit Denver’s operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Community service honors Wayne has been fortunate to receive are the Cherry Creek Chamber of Commerce Community Leader of the Year; CHUN Good Neighbor Award; INC Virginia Oredson Memorial Award for Outstanding Community Service; Cherry Creek Arts Festival – Award for Outstanding Community Service; and the CHUN Tom Knorr Award for Community Service.
