South by Southeast (SxSE) was developed after an extensive visioning series to find out what southeast Denver residents wanted to see in the district. Community members expressed a strong desire for improved restaurants and retail, walkability and bikeability, and a community gathering place. While we continue to work to create this grand vision for the area, planning and development can take a very long time. So, we put together a one-day community festival to showcase all the possibilities and opportunities available in southeast Denver. The event featured a beer garden with local brews from Wit's End Brewing, Comrade Brewing Co., and Crazy Mountain Brewery. We also had local bands and singing groups performing all day, community vendors, a farmers' market from the Samuels Elementary Community Garden, food trucks, a pop-up dog park for the furriest District 4 residents, a kids' bike parade, morning yoga, a community art project, and family-friendly yard games!
We enlisted the help of our working groups to plan the festival that was held on August 19, 2017 in Bible Park. We couldn't have done it without our great volunteers and working group members! Thank you!
We are hard at work planning the second annual SxSE, which will take place on August 18, 2018 in Bible Park. If you're interested in volunteering, performing, renting a booth, or serving food, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
