Fine District 9 News - February Edition

A Word From Council President Brooks

We are a month into 2018 and we are off and running in the “FINE District 9”.  I am excited this year to get to work and better serve the incredible residents of our district.  Our office had a retreat a couple of weeks ago to get prepared for everything that is happening in 2018.  It was a great opportunity to review 2017 and begin to dream about the possibilities for 2018.  We took our dreams and transformed them into priorities.  Fitzhugh Dodson said, “without goals and plans to reach them, you are like a ship that has set sail with no destination.”  We are trying to build a vibrant and inclusive City for all where young people no matter their background have the ability to dream big and work on making them a reality.  Below you will find our 2018 priorities for “FINE District 9” office.

2018 District Priorities

  • Find funding source of $150 million to add to the existing housing fund.  Our current fund is NOT meeting the demand of affordable housing projects in the queue.

  • Develop workforce opportunities for the homeless in our city funded projects

  • Develop funding strategy to complete Denver Moves for pedestrians and bikes City wide in 5-10 years

Transparency and collaboration for our community.

  • Office hours ‪beginning on Feb. 28th‬
  • Small talks on big topics in the community
  • Bi-weekly blogs concerning challenges and opportunities in the district
  • Podcasts bringing diverse people and ideas together to find solutions to issues in our City

  • Expand Summer Youth Job’s program
  • Develop Scholarship fund for “FINE District 9” graduating seniors heading to college
  • Support My Brother’s Keeper initiative in Denver
