When the Denver Human Services offices began offering services online and by phone only on March 19, we, like most of you, were uncertain about the future. We knew that offering services online and by phone only was the best way to protect the health and safety of our customers and staff and that we were committed to our mission to partner with our community to protect those in harm’s way and help all people in need. We also knew the need for our services would grow, and they did – to levels we could not have expected.
During the early months of the pandemic, our teams quickly shifted operations and redeployed to support essential city functions, including serving the more than 1,800 individuals and families staying in our emergency shelters. We provided these guests more than 4,600 hygiene items, thousands of meals and snacks, and an array of other supportive services to help them get back on their feet.
While our annual Spring Showers Hygiene Drive did not occur this year as planned, the need for support is still great. Our annual drive provides us with the funds and items we need to support our customers for an entire year. With the continued uncertainty of the impacts of COVID-19 and the cold winter months ahead, the need for hygiene items remains high.
With your help now, we can keep these small, yet critical hygiene items stocked for the remainder of 2020, and ensure that every Denver resident in need can have access to hygiene items that support their health, well-being, and dignity.
We appreciate donations of new or unopened hygiene items. The items we need include:
