Denver Human Services Operations

All of Denver Human Services’ programs are available online or over the phone at 720-944-4DHS (4347).

  • Visit www.colorado.gov/PEAK to apply for food, cash, medical, and child care assistance, and RTD's LiVE transit program.

  • Residents seeking help with rent or evictions, mortgage assistance, utility assistance, and property tax relief can visit our Additional Assistance page.

  • To apply for the Denver Property Tax Relief Program, please visit www.denvergov.org/propertytaxrelief.

  • Click here for information on how to pay child support payments. 

  • Limited in-person EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card pickup is available by appointment only at the Richard T. Castro Human Services Center (1200 Federal Blvd.). Call 720-944-4DHS (4347) to make an appointment and for more information.

  • To report the suspected abuse or neglect of a child, call 844-CO-4-KIDS 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Paper applications can be picked up and complete applications can be dropped off at our offices. Find the location nearest you here.

Denver Human Services offices will continue to offer services only online and by phone for the time being to protect the health and safety of the community and help limit the spread of COVID-19.

Building hours: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday

No same-day food, cash, or medical assistance on Wednesdays.

Parking:
Free public parking is available in both surface lots (limited spaces), street parking, and on the top deck of our parking structure (enter via the "DHS Public Parking" ramp in the middle).

Walk-in services:

  • Child Support (8 a.m.-4:15 p.m., Monday through Friday)
  • Food Assistance (8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday)
  • General Assistance (9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday)
  • Veteran Services (walk-in services Monday through Wednesday, 8-11 a.m. All other hours are by appointment only. Appointments during walk-in hours are highly recommended. Appointments are also highly recommended for meeting with the County Veteran Services officer.)
  • GIVE Center (9 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Thursday)
  • CARE Center
    • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
    • Monday, Saturday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
    • Sunday, closed
  • Good Beginnings Child Care (7 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday)

Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech disabilities may contact USDA through the Federal Relay Service at (800) 877-8339. Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English.

To file a program complaint of discrimination, complete the USDA Program Discrimination Complaint Form, (AD-3027) found online at: How to File a Complaint, and at any USDA office, or write a letter addressed to USDA and provide in the letter all of the information requested in the form. To request a copy of the complaint form, call (866) 632-9992. Submit your completed form or letter to USDA by:

In order to pay for the cost of staff, custodians of public records within the City and County of Denver may charge for research and retrieval time necessary to respond to requests for records under the Colorado Open Records Act (“CORA”). Pursuant to C.R.S. §24-72-205(6), staff time may be charged at a rate not to exceed $33.00 per hour. There shall be no charge for the first hour of time for research and retrieval of records.

Given circumstances caused by the presence and spread of the novel Coronavirus, it is possible that there may not be anyone available at Denver Human Services to accept service of legal documents, including subpoenas.  For the next several months, should there arise a need to serve legal documents on Denver Human Services and no one is available on site to accept service, we respectfully request that you serve these documents via the use of email.
