With three brand new facilities now open, Denver and its partners are prepared to shelter more than a thousand people without homes each night this winter. The City and County of Denver, through Denver’s Road Home, provides $2.9 million annually to support emergency shelter services. The city works with a network of providers to house, shelter and support people experiencing homelessness in Denver year-round.

The season of giving is underway at Denver Human Services (DHS) with the launch of the 2017 GIVE Denver Adopt-a-Family, Teen, or Senior Holiday Gift Drive. Now in its seventh year, the annual holiday gift drive pairs donors in the community with hundreds of families, teens, and seniors receiving services from DHS programs. The drive ensures holiday gifts find their way to children, families, teens, and seniors served by DHS regardless of their financial or family situation.

Denver Human Services (DHS) Executive Director Don Mares today released the following statement regarding the inaugural City audit of the DHS Child Welfare Division. “We take our charge as a child welfare agency to help kids impacted by abuse and neglect and to strengthen families very seriously and welcome these recommendations. That starts by increasing transparency and access to our work. As a former auditor, I am pleased to have reached an agreement with the City Auditor to allow this review which will set the bar for truly measuring our work for years to come. We agree with all the findings and recommendations of the audit.
