GIVE Denver Brings in More Than $8,000 with Annual Masquerade Fundraiser

DENVER – Nov. 5, 2015 – Donors showed their support of Denver’s underserved community to the tune of $8,756 by way of GIVE Denver’s annual masquerade fundraiser. The Denver Human Services (DHS) online auction, this year dubbed “Masquerade 5.0: An Online Affair,” brought in more than 200 bids for prize packages and handmade masks created by children in out-of-home care.

All proceeds from the auction directly benefit GIVE Denver, the fundraising and donation program of DHS. GIVE Denver leverages contributions from the public, volunteers and community partnerships to connect underprivileged individuals and families in crisis to necessary essentials like diapers and wipes; shampoo, soap and other hygiene products; and children’s pajamas. Additionally, GIVE Denver volunteers refer clients to community-based service providers, including food pantries, clothing banks, utility assistance, rental assistance and other lifeline resources.

“We’re thrilled with the outpouring of support from the Denver community,” said GIVE Denver Director Marv Allen. “The funds raised will allow us to serve and provide basic necessities to the children in need, homeless and others living on the brink of poverty that we see in the GIVE Denver Center on a daily basis.”

The auction offered a wide range of pricing options and featured several prize packages including sports memorabilia, museum passes and numerous vacation getaways each paired with masks painted by residents of the Family Crisis Center and Tennyson Center for Children, both residential treatment programs for youth. The masks are used to represent the ways in which at-risk children and adults sometimes hide the emotional scars of their experiences. The largest bid went for $4,000 as one donor secured a trip to the Masters Tournament with the Ultimate Golf Package.
