Partners rally to provide multiple supports for those suffering losses of income during shutdown
Denver Human Services (DHS) is bringing together dozens of community partners to support those suffering a loss of income due to the federal government shutdown. DHS will host two community resource fairs on Saturday, Jan. 19 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at their Castro and East Offices.
Attendees will be able to connect with:
“It is unconscionable that thousands of our families, friends, and neighbors are unable to pay their bills because of an unnecessary and damaging federal government shutdown,” said Mayor Michael B. Hancock. “I’m proud to see Denver stepping up and coming together to support people struggling to put food on the table, pay their housing costs, and obtain other essential needs. I urge the President to end this shutdown now, put these people back to work and get the federal government working again for all our residents.”
In addition to DHS programs and resources, the Office of Economic Development will be on site to provide information about their new Temporary Mortgage Assistance Program, Temporary Rental and Utility Assistance Program, and other housing supports; Energy Outreach Colorado will be onsite to support those needing utility or weatherization assistance; Denver Community Credit Union will be providing financial advice.
“We all need a little help sometimes and we realize some people experiencing a loss of income may not know what resources are available to support them, which is why we’re opening two of our offices on Saturday to help people impacted by the shutdown connect with available community resources,” said Don Mares, executive director of Denver Human Services. “We want Denver residents to know that no matter what life throws your way, we’re here to help you be supported. Together, we’ve got this.”
